Photographs Evaluation

My main image is of one of the runners for student president Lucy Acliffe.
i choose to use this image that i took myself because it something to do with the students, and the magazine would of come out the time of voting so it would be new fresh information that students would want to read about. I also used this photograph because it is my main story and like most magazine the main image on the front cover relates to the main story in the magazine itself.
In using this photo i have contrast the colours in the background like green and made my writing yellow so it stands out and is effective.
To improve this photo i would have inverted it to black and white so the image was more contrasting than detailed and the writing would stand out more.

i used this image on my contents page as it also is linked to my main story, because it is only a picture of Lucy eyes it makes it look different so the reader is drawn to it. it also is in black and white so it makes it look interesting and different. adding writing to the image lets the reader know what the article is about and makes them want to read the rest of it.

Evaluation of magazine

i started my magazine on Adobe inDesign, i decide to base my magazine on the student president and use this as my main image of one of the runners for president Lucy Acliffe. then i had other tag lines such as freshers which is a main event done by college, that most students go to, so tiring this to my magazine would draw the audience in as it something they are interested in. My Masthead it italic and block yellow so it stands out and catches the readers eye and draws them in. I decided to do a tag line to make it different to other college newspapers by using a short and snappy line. All my writing is in yellow as it is a bold colour so it stands out and makes a statement, using only the main stories on the front cover to make it look interesting and make the reader want to read it.

My over all magazine i think is good but i would of changed the colour of the image to black and white so the writing would stand out more and would of been a better design. i handed my magazine out to my art class to see the reaction of the target audience and they all said it was good but had some interesting feedback. to improve my magazine i would of also of gone round and done a survey on what students would like to read about so i had more of an idea of what my main tag lines would have been. and also if i had more time i would of like to of done a contrasting magazine for boys and then for girls in college so they could of two seperate designs.

My Final contents page i based on the main features and choose to have the layout of the mast head up the side to make it different from having it on the top. the main features are down the side with there news flashes in purple as it is a contrasting to the yellow background then using black i wrote the a tag line from the article to show the reader it bit about each article. Having the image at the bottom of the page draws the reader to read all the page as it is at the bottom. to improve my contents page i would use individual pictures under each tag line so the reader can see more about each article.

Planning

Before i made my magazine i did a flat plan of how i wanted the design to look and what i thought would appeal to the students reading it. I did it on paper looking at different layouts till i decided which one looked best then decided on the contents of my magazine and design a flat plan contents page as well. then drew it all out ready to copy onto the computer as my final front cover and contents.

The Task

I was asked to make a magazine cover for Sussex Downs College. In this i was told to do a contents page and front cover that would represent the college and interest the students.
